Chapter leader honored for 30 years of service

Apr 28, 2016

Kathy Boyd was honored for her 30 years as executive director of the NASW North Carolina Chapter. Valerie Arendt, associate executive director at the chapter, said Boyd will be honored with a plaque at the chapter’s Ethics Conference and Awards Luncheon on March 29. NASW CEO Angelo McClain also sent Boyd a letter of appreciation for her years of outstanding service to the association.

Boyd

During her tenure, Boyd has seen the chapter grow from 1,300 members, one staff person and no equipment in a rented office to more than 5,000 members and the addition of the NASW International District, five full-time and two part-time staff and ownership of the NASW-NC office in Historic Oakwood in downtown Raleigh. Boyd has led the association through many advances in the social work profession, including mandated licensure, passage of reimbursement laws, and confidentiality statutes for social workers.

She paved the way for new, advanced areas of social work practice such as human-animal bond, disaster response social work, and integrated care.

Because of her leadership, social work was the first master level profession to gain direct enrollment in Medicaid in North Carolina and remains the only master level profession to receive Medicare reimbursement.
