Resources from Congressional Briefing on Preventing Mistreatment of Newborn Intensive Care Unit Infants

Jul 26, 2017

The National Association of Social Workers on June 27 held  a Congressional briefing that identified strategies to prevent child maltreatment of infants from the Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU).

The briefing enhanced awareness about NICU families, identified their unique needs and reviewed program and policy solutions that promote positive parenting outcomes.

The Congressional briefing received much positive feedback and inquiries from professional social workers across the country.  The briefing materials and resources are being disseminated to the public for those who expressed an interest in receiving them.

NASW would like to thank the briefing supporters: Congressional Social Work Caucus, New York Community Trust, Council for Social Work Education, American Psychological Association, National Association of Perinatal Social Workers, Society for Social Work Leadership in Health Care and the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.

Also with great appreciation, NASW would like to acknowledge Dr. Chavis Patterson of Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, Jenné Johns NICU parent and author, Uma Ahluwalia of Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services, and Dr. Angela Patterson.
