On September 15, members of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC), Congressional Black Caucus, and Congressional Hispanic Caucus introduced the Health Equity and Accountability Act of 2011, a bill that complements the efforts of the Affordable Care Act and focuses on eliminating racial and ethnic health disparities. The bill was introduced by social worker, Congresswoman Barbara Lee, Chair of CAPAC’s Healthcare Taskforce, and included 68 original cosponsors. NASW worked with congressional leaders in drafting portions of the bill.
Second Chance Act Reintroduced: Seminal Criminal Justice Reform Legislation
On April 16, 2024, the House of Representatives reintroduced a truly seminal bipartisan criminal justice reform bill called the Second Chance Act (SCA). This news of the reintroduction of SCA is more gratifying when we realize that it coincides with the act’s 16th anniversary.
