Talking Points on Aging for Community Conversations About Mental Health

Talking Points on Aging for Community Conversations About Mental Health

Sept. 6, 2013

The National Coalition on Mental Health and Aging (NCHMA), of which NASW is a member, has developed talking points for use in the federal Community Conversations About Mental Health initiative. These talking points are designed to help social workers, other professionals, and consumers incorporate older adults’ mental health in the Community Conversations.

Background:

The Community Conversations are part of a National Dialogue on Mental Health, initiated by President Obama in January 2013. (The June 2013 National Conference on Mental Health, in which NASW CEO Dr. Angelo McClain participated, and the new federal Web site, www.MentalHealth.gov, are also part of the National Dialogue.) The goal of the Community Conversations is twofold: to increase understanding of mental health issues and to develop local plans to improve mental health viagra 100mg herbal in communities across the U.S. SAMHSA encourages participating communities to share their results on the Creating Community Solutions outcomes page.

The Community Conversations began in July and are scheduled throughout the fall. Planning for additional events is underway. Each event is locally organized, though the Substance Use and Mental Health Administration (SAMSHA) provides resources to prepare conveners and participants.
