June 16th, 2009 at 10:24 amThe challenges in the GLBT community are vast, but change is possible.
Just as there were marches in Selma, sit -ins in Greensboro, and speeches in Washington in the 1960’s - it is time for the GLBT rights movement to follow in their footsteps in the name of equality.
Our task, as members and supporters of the GLBT community is to keep coming out, and organize visible political gatherings. Harvey Milk said “If a bullet should enter my brain, let that bullet destroy every closet door”.
The more quickly middle America understands that gay is their daughters, mothers, next door neighbors, teachers, caregivers, SOCIAL WORKERS, and coworkers - the more quickly justice, change, and equality will come for the GLBT community.
I became a Social Worker because I believe in equality, civil rights, the dignity and worth of each individual, and hope that people can help themselves. This year I hope you all join with the GLBT community and that we will see national equality for GLBT peoples in this decade.
