NASW Supports the End of the War in Iraq

Oct 23, 2011

President Obama recently announced that U.S. troops will return home from Iraq by the end of this year. After nearly nine years, the war in Iraq will end. According to the White House, “The war in Iraq came with tremendous cost. More than a million Americans served in Iraq, and nearly 4,500 gave their lives in service to the rest of us. Today, as always, we honor these patriots.”

NASW supports this decision as social workers have consistently advocated for a just and peaceful world.  Social justice is central to the profession’s values and specifically emphasized in the NASW Code of Ethics as social work professionals are instructed to “promote policies that safeguard the rights of and confirm equity and social justice for all people.”
