Donate to the NASW Foundation During a Global Day of Giving and Unity: Giving Tuesday, May 5

Apr 29, 2020

Giving Tuesday Now

In this time of global uncertainty, there is a fundamental truth that gives us hope—together we can do extraordinary things. In recent months, people have joined together to help out, give back, and heal. We are donating to community organizations and celebrating doctors, nurses, social workers, and other frontline individuals who are responding to the pandemic and keeping our country going. We are reaching out to neighbors who need help with groceries and we are stocking food banks. Generosity is uniting us to get through this global pandemic together.

On May 5, 2020, the NASW Foundation is participating in Giving Tuesday | Now, a global day of giving and unity. Social Workers are essential to the nation’s COVID-19 response. NASW, and the NASW Foundation, are committed to supporting our members, and the social work profession, as a whole, as we work to reduce the impact and spread of the virus.

Giving Tuesday Now

The NASW Foundation needs your help to continue our work. As you are aware, the foundation is a 501(c)(3) organization created in 2001 to support NASW’s educational, research, and charitable initiatives through a wide range of diverse programs and projects that serve and promote the social work profession, the practitioner, and the public. We fulfill our core mission of enhancing the well-being of individuals, families, and communities through the advancement of social work policy and practice.

Since the NASW Foundation was created in 2001, it has raised and invested approximately $40 million on a wide array of programs and activities, including:

  • Training social workers, with outside grant assistance, to provide services to clients through the NASW / Hartford Supervisory Leaders in Aging, Social Work HEALS—Social Work Healthcare Education and Leadership Scholars, HIV-AIDS programs, Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders and alcohol awareness, among many others.
  • Helping the NASW Chapters to raise funds to support educational, research, training, and scholarship activities at the state and local level.
  • Funding scholarships, fellowships, and recognition awards that help to educate the next generation of social workers and recognize social workers for outstanding achievements.

Your support will help us continue this important work. Not only do we need your donation, we need your help to spread the word in coming months. Please tell your colleagues, friends, and family why you believe in our work and encourage them to support us too. Recent Child Care Updates

Since the start of the new year there have been several new developments regarding child care. Childcare has been a consistent conversation among parents, social workers, child advocates, and the childcare workforce because the costs of care are rising. Without affordable child care, some parents leave the workforce, and some spend more than 7% of their income on care while paying for other necessities. Childcare is plagued with long waitlists, low compensation for workers and some rural communities have few options to access care.
