Forum on Global Violence Prevention Workshop

The Institute of Medicine (IOM), Forum on Global Violence Prevention,  will convene a 2-day workshop to explore gaps in the four areas of knowledge management (knowledge generation, integration, dissemination, and application) and how closing these gaps might accelerate violence prevention in low- and middle-income countries.  NASW staff is a member of the Forum on Global Violence Prevention.  The workshop content is extremely relevant to social work practice in HIV/AIDS, LGBT communities, Older adults, children and youth, IPV, and more.  The workshop will be available via live webcast at: http://iom.edu/Activities/Global/ViolenceForum/2011-DEC-08.aspx

Recent Child Care Updates

Since the start of the new year there have been several new developments regarding child care. Childcare has been a consistent conversation among parents, social workers, child advocates, and the childcare workforce because the costs of care are rising. Without affordable child care, some parents leave the workforce, and some spend more than 7% of their income on care while paying for other necessities. Childcare is plagued with long waitlists, low compensation for workers and some rural communities have few options to access care.
