March 10 is Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day

Mar 10, 2014

One in four people with HIV in the United States are women or girls over the age of 13.   It is estimated that over 25,000 women and girls in the U.S. do not know they are living with HIV.

On March 10, National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day, the Health and Human Services Office on Women’s Health is reaching out to ask our help to reduce the stigma of HIV and reach out and educate.

Social workers can make a difference.  Reach-out to clients, family, and friends.  Here is how we can help end HIV/AIDS:

  • Get tested. (Go to http://locator.aids.gov/)
  • Educate and raise awareness  about HIV with your family, your friends, your colleagues and clients.  Understand HIV transmission and prevention strategies.
  • Prevent HIV stigma by speaking out against stigma and discrimination.

We can all support National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day.
