Social Work as a Career with Jane Pauley

Jan 10, 2011

Starting at noon ET on Tuesday, January 11th, Jane Pauley will host an interactive online chat at www.AARP.org/Jane. Joining her will be Tracy Whitaker from the National Association of Social Workers and Sylvia Abrego-Araiza, a youth counselor who is the subject of this month’s Your Life Calling segment on the Today Show.  Jane, her guests, and the online audience will be discussing social work as a career and a means for giving back after the age of 50.  We look forward to hearing your comments and thoughts about the subject in Tuesday’s chat.

One of broadcast’s most respected journalists, Jane Pauley is the host of AARP’s Your Life Calling series. Featured monthly on NBC’s Today Show, Your Life Calling highlights the unique stories of individuals across America who have reinvented themselves to find personal and career fulfillment on their own terms. These are people who have heard their life calling and have responded by taking that bold first step into the unknown. Visit http://www.aarp.org/jane for more information or to watch past segments.

Recent Child Care Updates

Since the start of the new year there have been several new developments regarding child care. Childcare has been a consistent conversation among parents, social workers, child advocates, and the childcare workforce because the costs of care are rising. Without affordable child care, some parents leave the workforce, and some spend more than 7% of their income on care while paying for other necessities. Childcare is plagued with long waitlists, low compensation for workers and some rural communities have few options to access care.
