Letter to President Obama requesting full ACA implementation

NASW and other members of the Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, sent a letter to President Obama urging the administration to continue on its path of full implementation of all provisions in the Affordable Care Act, in particular full implementation of the Medicaid expansion in 50 states and the District of Columbia.

The Medicaid expansion, the letter explains, is critical to reducing healthcare disparities experienced by people of color; women; and LGBT individuals.  The letter expresses concern that if states fail to adopt the expansion, the goal of true access to affordable health care for low-income and underserved populations will not be achieved.

Recent Child Care Updates

Since the start of the new year there have been several new developments regarding child care. Childcare has been a consistent conversation among parents, social workers, child advocates, and the childcare workforce because the costs of care are rising. Without affordable child care, some parents leave the workforce, and some spend more than 7% of their income on care while paying for other necessities. Childcare is plagued with long waitlists, low compensation for workers and some rural communities have few options to access care.
